How to Remove ‘Powered by Shopify’

Shopify is a leading e-commerce platform used to create online e-commerce stores. However, that doesn’t mean you should advertise that your stores use it. We’re talking about the “Powered by Shopify” at the bottom of our websites.

Some store owners prefer to remove it, and others like to have link-free footers. Having the “Powered by Shopify” on your site makes people think it’s a dropshipping store. People have learned they can get better deals on Amazon than on a dropshipping store.

We’ve created a step-by-step guide in this article to help you remove the “Powered by Shopify” link at the bottom of your Shopify store.

What Does ‘Powered by Shopify’ Mean?

By default, the ‘Powered by Shopify’ text is added to each store footer to let the site visitors know that you created the store using Shopify.

Is It Allowed to “Remove Powered by Shopify”?

Upon creating a new online store, many business owners search for ways to eliminate the sign “Powered by Shopify” from the footer on their website. Unfortunately, many of them using Shopify’s free themes and trials aren’t aware of the site’s terms and conditions. Hence, they don’t know if removing this sign is permitted. The answer is yes. You can remove “Powered by Shopify” even if you’re using a Shopify free theme or on a trial subscription.

How to remove Powered by Shopify?

Fortunately, it’s a straightforward procedure. The steps may vary slightly depending on your theme, technical knowledge, and preferences. Still, they are generally the same for all stores.

In this example, we’ll use the “Debut” theme to demonstrate how to remove the “Powered by Shopify” label. Of course, the methods are the same if you’re using many free themes.

Method one: Remove using Edit code

First thing you need to do is go to Online Store > Themes > Actions > Edit code

Log in to your store’s admin panel. Navigate to Themes in your Shopify admin panel and select the theme you want to edit. You’ll see a drop-down menu; from there, select Edit code.

Then go to Sections > footer.liquid open the Sections folder and look for the “footer.liquid” file. The coding will then appear on the right-hand side of the page.

In the third step, you need to find the search powered by link; you can do that by Ctrl + F > Search powered_by_link

Start typing in the code search box. If you’re using a Mac, press the Command and (F) key simultaneously. If you’re using a PC, hit Ctrl and F. The Debut theme contains three “powered by link” places in this example.

When you find them Delete {{ powered_by_link }}

Ensure that you have erased the code : <small class=””site-footer__copyright-content” site-footer__copyright-content–powered-by”=””>{{ powered_by_link }}</small>.

You may have to delete the bracketed code numerous times, depending on where it appears. The code will be different if you use non-sectioned themes, but it must include a powered-by link.

After removing the three pieces of code, click the Save button in the upper right-hand corner. Congratulations! You removed “Powered by Shopify” from your website.

Method Two: Remove using Edit language

If you cannot use the first way, you may use this method as an alternative. Rather than clicking Edit code first, Shopify also suggests clicking Edit languages.

So first, go to Online Store > Themes > Actions > Edit languages

Similar to before, you’ll go to the Shopify Dashboard. Select Online retailers from the left side. After that, select the Themes icon. You will now view the page that your active theme has displayed. There will be a drop-down menu with the option Edit languages. Click on it. Type “powered” into the Filter box.

The faded Powered by Shopify placeholder text appears in areas like Check out & systems / Links and General / Password Page. To clear this, click the space bar, and the words will be gone. Apply this to your HTML bar as well.

Save your changes by going to the top right of the screen and clicking the Save button. That’s all! You successfully removed the “Powered by Shopify”.

Method 3: Remove powered by Shopify with the mobile app

Every store owner uses laptops or PCs to customize their e-commerce site. However, you can still erase “Powered by Shopify” on mobile. We’ll show you how to remove the Powered by Shopify code from your website using Android or iOS devices.

Go to Shopify’s dashboard to remove the “Powered by Shopify” badge. Next, go to Online Store > Themes from the Sales channels area. Choose the theme you want to change. Then, go to Actions > Languages. Enter “powered” into the Filter box. Insert one space in the “Powered by Shopify” box. Save the file. Mission accomplished! Your website’s “Powered by Shopify” link is gone.

What to put in the footer instead of Powered by Shopify?

Instead of “Powered by Shopify,” you can include Visa, MasterCard, or PayPal logos. You can also use links to your social media and your contact info. Leaving the space blank works excellent too.
